The Netflix Windows Phone 7 app is now available in the UK, allowing users of the movie-streaming service watch their Netflix content on the go on their phone.
Rumors surrounding Google’s cloud storage service are ramping up as we move closer toward the product’s rumored release date. The service will apparently be called Google Drive and is similar to Dropbox, which allows users to store files on cloud servers and access them from computers and mobile devices. According to a leaked screenshot obtained by TalkAndroid, Google Drive will offer 5GB of free storage instead of the previously rumored 1GB.
Imangi Studios on Tuesday announced that its hit iOS game, Temple Run, will be coming to the Android Market on March 27th. Temple Run is an Indiana Jones-like ”runner” game that has users sprint through obstacles and escape the dangers of the jungle using gestures that make the character jump, duck and move from side to side. “We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.” Temple Run is currently the top free app and top grossing app in the iOS App Store, with over 40 million downloads and 7 million daily active users. The game is free to play and features in-app purchases that allow users to buy different characters and power-ups for higher scores. PR 1.2 was just released for N9 and one of the biggest features it brought was support for video calling.
Google Talk is one of the built in IM clients that support this feature, however it could be the case that after installing PR 1.2 you still weren’t able to see any option to make a video call. For it to work you need to install a Gtalk with video package from the OVI Store. It’s from Nokia directly so it’s about as official as it can get. You can get it here. The OnLive Desktop App is now available for free in the Android Market. OnLive is known for its cloud-based gaming service, which delivers console-quality games that are synchronized, rendered, and stored on remote servers and then streamed over the Internet to compatible devices. At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, the company announced the “OnLive Desktop App” for the iPad, and now an Android version is available as well.
The app uses virtualization technology to create a remotely hosted, fully functional version of Windows 7 desktop on your tablet. The basic OnLive Desktop service is free with a “Plus” version available for $4.99 per month, which features gigabit-speed accelerated web browsing and access to other cloud storage services such as Dropbox. The OnLive Desktop app requires at least Android 2.3 and is compatible with the Acer Iconia Tab A500, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, Motorola XOOM, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, and HTC Jetstream. Microsoft announced on Wednesday the availability of its Xbox LIVE iOS app.
The free application is available for iPad and iPhone users and lets iOS users get access to the Xbox LIVE service. Some of the features include:
- Read and send messages to friends
- Manage your friends list, invite new friends
- Read and Edit your full LIVE profile (name, bio, motto)
- Change your avatar features/items with the avatar closet
- View and compare your achievement progress with friends
Look out Facebook, here comes Google+. After three months as an invite-only service, Google+ has thrown open its door to the world and rolled out a slew of new features. The announcement comes just days before Facebook’s annual f8 developer conference and seems clearly aimed as a shot across the social network giant’s bow. Let the social wars begin.
Of course Facebook has already weathered at least one of Google’s attempts at a social network, the now marginalized Buzz (two if you include Wave). But this time around Google has done more than roll out a Facebook clone. As part of Google’s attempt to carve a unique spot for Plus, the company is rolling out several new features, including mobile support for the Google+ video chat feature known as “Hangouts.”
Unify is a software, powered by Deutsche Telekom, which provides a common API developing cross-platform applications that will look and feel like native ones.
It makes use of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and other resources like qooxdoo, PhoneGap, Adobe AIR and Sass.
Unify was built to improve the development efficiency of apps for smartphones. Currently it supports smartphones based on the platforms iOS, Android and WebOS. There is support for desktop operating systems like Windows or Mac OS as well. Support for tablet devices is planned for the next year.
